The Air Force Research Laboratory’s LHMEL Facility, operated by UES, Inc., provides the aerospace community with a comprehensive resource for high temperature characterization of current and emerging materials using a variety of infrared laser sources and environmental simulation capabilities. LHMEL provides uniform, well characterized constant heat flux conditions and time varying heating profiles to match application specific heating trends which can be combined with air or inert gas flow to evaluate ablation/oxidation performance. A suite of diagnostics is available to capture the multi-physics responses of materials during testing. Test conditions are ideal for validating material models, thermal property determination, survivability testing, material screening, and performance predictions.
